Newborn Session Info

I’m so grateful to specialize in maternity, birth, newborns, and a baby’s first year! It’s a true blessing to be able to do what I love and capture such a meaningful moment in a family’s life. Newborns change so much in those first few weeks, and it’s so important to document their tiny fingers and toes, soft skin, delicate wrinkles, long lashes, and that sweet newborn expression. I’ve always had a love for snuggling babies, and it’s even more wonderful to capture their beauty through my lens.

When should I book a session?

It’s never too early to book your session, especially since I specialize in newborn photography and my calendar fills up quickly. To reserve your spot, simply reach out with your due date, and we’ll schedule a tentative session date. Don’t worry if your baby arrives early or late—we can always adjust.

When are the sessions done?

Newborn sessions are best scheduled within the first 12 days of life. This is when they’re still very sleepy, allowing us to capture those adorable, curly poses. The sleepier your baby is, the more poses we can achieve! I currently offer in-home newborn sessions, so there’s no need to pack everything up and go to a studio. You can relax in the comfort of your own home while I create beautiful, timeless images of your precious little one.

What should I do to prepare for my newborn session?

Before I arrive for your session, it’s helpful to try and keep your baby awake for at least 2 hours. I know this can be tricky, but gently moving them around and avoiding letting them get too comfortable will help ensure they sleep more soundly during the session and allow for a variety of poses. It’s also a good idea to make sure your baby is in a nice and fed just before I arrive. Please have your baby undressed (but keep the diaper on) and wrapped in a soft blanket. This helps ensure they’re full and ready for a long, deep nap. If your baby uses a pacifier or bottle, please have those available.

How long are the sessions?

Newborn sessions typically last around 3-4 hours. It takes time to gently get your baby settled and asleep, as well as to position them for various poses. Of course, we’ll also factor in a feeding break during the session as needed.

Should I get any props for the session?

I have a ton of adorable props I bring on my newborn sessions. These include hats, headbands, wraps, blankets, baskets, buckets etc. I am always on the lookout for new props to keep my images fresh and to always have something new to use. If there is something specific you have that you would like to use I am more than happy to try and incorporate it.

What happens after the session?

A link to your online gallery will be sent to you by email within 2 weeks after the session along with details on how to place your order. Once you finalize your favorites online I will do any final edits to them and then email you a digital download link. Make sure to save these in a safe place. I usually recommend saving them onto a hard drive and also a cloud service for safe keeping.
