Here is an adorable first birthday party for little Oscar! His mom is a local wedding florist and event designer. I love photographing her parties and adorable kids because they are always styled well :) Makes my Job extra fun! Photographing First Birthday parties are quickly becoming something I love to do!
Want to know more about the details and theme of the party? Hear straight from the designer herself below.
“My name is Erin Volante, and I run a wedding floral business (Erin Volante Floral) with some party styling on the side. :) This party was for my little boy’s first birthday (Oscar). His birthday is the day after Valentine’s Day, so I felt like it was really appropriate to celebrate how much he is loved. He is the smiley-est little guy, and his twinkly eyes and huge smile truly just light up our lives! I realized that I had started using instagram not long before he was born, so the last year in my images there felt like an amazing way to watch him grow. We ran with that idea, and used lots (and lots!) of images from his first year. Bonus to that- now I actually have printed photos instead of leaving them on my computer like I normally do, haha!
One of my favorite projects were the birthday hats that I made- they turned out so cute and everybody got a huge kick out of them, especially the kids! I based them off of this idea from Martha: http://www.marthastewart.com/286846/photo-birthday-party-hats. I found it was easiest to just buy the cheap paper party hats from the store, and then I just took one apart and traced and used it as my template- then hot glued directly back onto those hats. They were so funny and really made a big impact.
I had this darling vintage camera print made with the download and directions from here. It really fit the theme and was an inexpensive way to fill up lots of space!
The invitations were super cute, and they also fit the theme so well! http://www.peartreegreetings.com/Kids-Cards–Kids-Invitations/1st-Birthday-Invitations/2775-9970FC-Photo-Booth-Session–Photo-First-Birthday-Invitations.pro
The favor bags and washi tape are from Paper Source.
My main focus for this party was to do a few sweet details that would make a big impact- it was really important to me to include Oscar’s sisters in the planning and elements of the party. I wanted it to feel very simple, not overly-styled, and cohesive through color. I also wanted to keep it very budget-friendly. Although I love looking at all the amazing, huge parties that float around the blogosphere, I know that it’s not our reality with three kids! I have to find ways to make our parties feel really special and thoughtful without spending hundreds of dollars on dessert tables alone. :)
I am so lucky to be in the event industry and to have such talented friends. Lucinda (Portraits by Lucinda) took these amazing photographs to help us record Oscar’s big day! http://www.portraitsbylucinda.com. Andrea with Classic Cakes in Lee’s Summit made some awesome sugar cookie cupcakes, which were a big hit!
